  • The Sounds of 1711: A Concert in Honor of the Needham Tercentennial (April 2011) On Sunday, April 3, 2011, First Parish in Needham presented a "sonic collage" of music from the earliest part of the 18th century, with special emphasis on vocal, choral, and chamber works that might have travelled across the ocean to the homes, meeting houses, and village concerts of early American settlements. The program, including music by Handel, Corelli, Purcell, Arne, and their contemporaries, featured a select choir from First Parish and Boston-area choral singers, supported by an ensemble of period instrumentalists and professional early-music vocalists. This celebratory performance was designed and led by Director of Music Vivian Montgomery. Featured performers included soprano Shannon Cannavin, baroque flutist Na'ama Lion, baroque violinists Dana Maiben, Karina Fox, and Cynthia Freivogel, and baroque cellist Sarah Freiburg. The concert was free and open to the public -- a birthday gift from First Parish to the Town of Needham.
