Saturday , February 4-- Southern Rail

After more than thirty years playing together, Southern Rail continues to delight audiences with their contemporary energy, spirit and drive, matched only by the warmth and humor of their performances. Their music is upbeat and emotionally charged, encompassing contemporary trios, powerful gospel quartets, and solid instrumentals. They feature: Jim Muller on guitar and lead vocals -- born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Jim’s rich, distinctive lead vocals and offbeat humor have become one of the group's trademarks. Sharon Horovitch on upright bass -- aggressive, creative and irrepressible, Sharon is known for her infectious smile, her limber bass work, and her tenor and high-baritone harmonies. Rich Stillman on banjo -- has been playing bluegrass banjo for over 30 years. Southern Rail's recordings have climbed to #11 on Bluegrass Unlimited’s Top Thirty Single’s Chart, and have hit #1 on a number of radio stations across the nation. Their songs have graced Bluegrass Unlimited's Top Thirty Singles Chart for a combined total of 32 months, receiving heavy national airplay. One of Southern Rail's earlier CDs, a special Bluegrass Gospel compilation entitled Glory Train, was nominated for Best Gospel Recording of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association.

Directions to the Homegrown Coffeehouse at First Parish in Needham, Unitarian Universalist

From the North: Take Route 128 (I-95) south to exit 19B (Highland Avenue Needham). Take Highland Avenue to Great Plain Avenue in Needham Center. Cross over Great Plain Ave. onto Dedham Ave., the church will be on your right. Parking is available on Lincoln St., the first right after the church. Enter on Lincoln Street.

From the South: Take Route 128 (I-95) north to exit 17 (Route 135). Take Route 135 to Lincoln Street (see map). Parking is off Lincoln Street.

From Boston and Cambridge: Take Route 9 west to Route 128 South. Follow directions above "from the North."
