Fun & Fellowship

The goal of the Fellowship Committee is to provide opportunities for members and friends of First Parish to gather socially at least once a month. These "Fun and Fellowship" events range from large social events to small regular gatherings based on an affinity for bridge, knitting, books, or some other common interest. The committee strives to create a balance between family and adult activities. For example, Opening Sunday (September) and Closing Sunday (June) are celebrated with an all church picnic on the front lawn. We have also held Halloween Parties, game nights, a Father/Child pancake breakfast, Ethnic Dine-Outs, Lobsta' bakes, and Chili Cook-Offs, nature hikes, and cultural outings.

If you have an idea for an activity or would like to help with one of the scheduled events, please contact Fellowship Committee Chair Debbie Roberts at deborahfroberts@verizon.net or 781-551-0160.

Upcoming Events
(Check back often as new events are added regularly, sometimes on short-notice. Click here to go to regular social gatherings including bridge, knitting, and book groups.)

Regular Gatherings

Knitting group
We meet the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Church, generally in the Music Room. Conversation and help — along with the click of needles — is the order of the evening. Work on your own project or a group project such as Preemie hats for Children’s Hospital or scarves and afghans for Afghanistan. All are welcome. For more information, please speak with Polly Harrington or Jeanne Gerber.

Daytime Book Group
We will meet at First Parish on the third Friday of the month at 11:30 am. A light lunch will be served. For more information contact Helen Lane.

Bridge Players Unite!
Join First Parish members and friends in an afternoon of bridge for fun on the third Thursday of the month at 2 pm. For more information contact Buffy Duhig.

Sunday Book Group
Sunday night book club meets on the fourth Sunday of the month at 7:30 p.m. Everyone welcome.  You need not attend every meeting. Contact Jeanette Anderson for more information.

Tickets are $12 in advance, sold at coffee hour. Wear your Tex Mex outfit — there’ll be prizes for the best costumes. This event follows last year's wildly successful chili cook-off and folk dancing evening. You won't want to miss 2010’s Tex Mex version! For more information, contact Wendy Blom, 781-449-3850.

Walk the Sacred Labyrinthlabyrinth.jpg
The labyrinth is an ancient and sacred symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools. If you would like to walk the labyrinth with First Parish, wear appropriate clothing and outdoor walking shoes – the ground is flat but uneven.  Children are welcome if they can participate in quiet walking meditation. Tea to follow at the center. Donations to the Center at Westwoods accepted. Rain date Spring, 2010. Contact Nancy Wilde to sign up and get directions: nan.wilde@yahoo.com or 781-414-9021.
